Description
The beginning of a new era
With the new ZEPHYR MK2 GTX HI Ranger Green, LOWA heralds the long-awaited new era of tactical combat boots. The update of the Zephyr MK2 includes the optimisation of basic features such as agility, lightness and stability and is now officially certified for professional use according to ISO 20347:2012. The particularly ergonomic and slip-resistant sole with optimal cushioning provides the necessary update, not only qualifying the shoe for dynamic operations and missions in varied and challenging terrain but also ensuring a firm grip on slippery and oily surfaces.
LOWA has once again succeeded in combining a breathable GORE-TEX membrane, tear-resistant suede, as well as an improved ergonomic sole in such a way that the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX HI is once again the everyday companion in wind and weather, in leisure time, in the forest, as well as in hard use. This is also made possible by the cold and heat insulating sole complex.
The raised HI-CUT upper and the particularly ergonomic sole, as well as the optimised cushioning, also qualify the shoe for hard parachute landings or operations in changing, rough terrain. With improved moisture management, the shoe is also perfect for heavyweight operations in high temperatures.
Outsole
A tactical boot must provide maximum slip resistance on oily, wet or scree-heavy surfaces.
To meet this requirement and therewith the ISO 20347:2012 certification, Lowa has developed the LOWA X-TRAC MILITARY sole. This provides the necessary grip and ensures slip resistance with its special rubber compound.
Midsole
In order to guarantee effective cushioning and thus improved wearing comfort during heavy impact in rough terrain, the outsole of the combat boot is equipped with an injected midsole made of a particularly light foam that connects the sole and the upper. Various layers of polyurethane foam padding are moulded into an ergonomic shape and bonded to the upper. The proverbial "one cast" thus creates a lightweight shoe whose cushioning properties are above average: The polyurethane is characterised by a special rebound effect, which is created by its consistency of millions of small bubbles and which infinitely returns to its original shape after heavy use.
Inner sole
The core piece for a stable footbed is the insole of the Zephyr, which can manage moisture as well as wetness and supports even prolonged use with best ergonomic comfort. The insole is made of 9% polyamide and approximately 90% polyurethane. Polyamide provides extra dimensional stability, tear and abrasion resistance and waterproofness, while the polyurethane complements the cushioning properties with a lightweight and functional foam.
Upper material
Thanks to the combination of hard-wearing suede and high-performance synthetic material, the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX HI combines a loose fibre structure with a velvety surface to guarantee brilliant functional properties.
In the overall design of the second generation Zephyr, improvements have been made in surface processing to enhance comfort. This includes a revised seam alignment between the forefoot and midfoot, which helps prevent pressure points, particularly during frequent kneeling.Upper membrane
Naturally, heavy-duty combat boots are not only exposed to exceptional abrasion, but also to the most adverse conditions. To counter weather protection and summer temperatures, the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX HI is therefore equipped with a GORE-TEX Extended Comfort Footwear membrane. This innovative technology offers optimal waterproof and windproof protection with excellent breathability.
Lacing
The two-zone lacing system used by Lowa, of the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX HI separates the forefoot and shaft via their own adjustable lacing zones. This allows for an individual, anatomical adjustment of the foot, especially when lacing for ascents and descents. The closed lacing hooks guide the laces securely and prevent them from slipping out of the hooks. Nothing on the shoe gets caught on undergrowth or clothing as a result.
Functional lace garages securely store extra length in the laces, and the enlarged grip loops on the back of the boot ensure even quicker entry when wearing tactical gloves.Orthotics Certified
The ZEPHYR MK2 GTX Hi with an exchangeable footbed in combination with the well-known orthopaedic insoles ErgoPad work:x and ErgoPad® work:h+ from BAUERFEIND ensures an optimal individual fit. As a result, the shoe is certified and approved as an occupational shoe according to DIN EN ISO 20347:2012.
