Lightweight expedition sleeping bag for temperatures around freezing point
This model is the Carinthia D 400X in size M (215 x 79 x 63 cm) with left-side zipper. The sleeping bag is also available in additional sizes and zipper configurations. An overview of the available D 400X variants can be found further below.
Compact down sleeping bag for mobile operations and expeditions
The Carinthia D 400X is a lightweight expedition sleeping bag designed for temperatures around freezing point and tours with limited packing space. The sleeping bag is suitable for mobile operational profiles, trekking tours and expeditions with a focus on low weight and compact pack size.
With 400 g of goose down, a weight of 785 g, a compressed pack size of 17 x 21 cm and a comfort limit of -5°C, the D 400X combines high thermal performance with low weight.
DIScover System and moisture-optimized construction
The DIScover System provides additional protection for the down against moisture and supports sleeping bag performance in low temperatures. For this purpose, Carinthia uses an additional outer shell made from highly water-repellent material.
Shelltex and Shelltex Ultra, both made from 100% polyamide, are used for the outer and inner materials respectively.
High-quality down insulation
For insulation, Carinthia uses high-quality goose down with a fill power of 800 cuin. The 95/5 down-to-feather ratio combines low weight with high compressibility.
The H-chamber construction supports even insulation distribution throughout the sleeping bag. At the same time, the D 400X remains compact and easy to transport.
Zipper with thermal baffle
The D 400X features a 2-way zipper with integrated thermal baffle, zipper cover flap and anti-snag tape. The anti-snag attachments additionally reduce material jamming during opening and closing.
The sleeping bag also features flat and rigid inner drawcords for simplified handling. A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

Care instructions for down sleeping bags
Down sleeping bags are machine washable (gentle cycle, max. 30°C) and suitable for tumble drying at low temperature. Before washing, close all fasteners, loosen drawcords and turn the sleeping bag inside out. A washing machine with a capacity of at least 7 kg is required. The gentlest cleaning method remains hand washing in warm water using down detergent. Rinse multiple times after washing to remove detergent residue.
Spin at a maximum of 500 rpm, then air dry – avoid direct sunlight. Machine drying is possible at very low heat using the gentlest setting. Shake regularly during drying and loosen the down insulation. Finally, allow the sleeping bag to air dry for at least 24 hours.
Proper storage
Down sleeping bags should always be stored uncompressed in order to preserve the insulating performance of the filling. Ideal storage is hanging, open or with open zippers inside a large storage sack in a dry and well-ventilated area. The down filling requires sufficient space to expand and recover.
The stuff sack should only be used for transport. Do not roll the sleeping bag. Instead, stuff it into the sack from the foot end with the zipper open, as repeated rolling stresses the filling in the same areas and can damage the construction.
