Warmth for cold days on duty
When cold conditions determine clothing choices, insulation starts with the right construction. The Brynje Tactical Arctic Shirt combines next-to-skin merino mesh with a solid-knit wool exterior. As a particularly warm base layer from the Arctic range, it is designed for professional users in law enforcement and the military. Long sleeves with thumbholes extend cold protection to the hands.
Two-layer insulation with moisture transfer
The inner layer of merino wool mesh touches the skin only at individual points. Warm air accumulates in the spaces between the mesh strands, with the wool layer above providing additional insulation. This two-layer construction combines warmth retention with breathability and is suitable for very cold conditions.
As physical exertion increases, perspiration passes through the open inner structure as water vapour. The outer wool layer absorbs moisture and releases it through evaporation. The two layers therefore fulfil different roles within the same shirt.
Wool blend reinforced with polyamide
The inner and outer layers each consist of 80% merino wool and 20% polyamide. This combination provides a soft feel against the skin and increases the knit’s durability. Low odour retention allows extended wear; thorough airing is often sufficient between washes. The total weight is 370 g in size M.
Thumbholes and a long regular fit
Thumbholes at the cuffs keep the fabric in place during movement and extend coverage beyond the wrists. Raglan sleeves support freedom of arm movement. The long unisex cut with a regular fit complements the design for wear beneath additional clothing layers. Flatlock seams reduce friction at the seam lines.

The Brynje ranges at a glance
Wool Thermo combines merino wool with an open mesh construction and is particularly suited to low to moderate activity in cool to cold conditions. Super Thermo uses synthetic mesh to transfer moisture and heat during varying levels of exertion in cold or wet weather. For cold conditions, Arctic combines an inner mesh layer with a warm wool outer layer. Classic offers versatile, solid-knit merino base layers that can be worn directly against the skin or over a mesh layer.
Care instructions
Dry and air the garments after use. Washing is not necessary after every wear. Wash as needed to remove sweat and salt residues. Machine wash only on the wool cycle at the temperature specified on the care label, up to a maximum of 40 °C. Use a wool detergent without enzymes or bleach, dose sparingly and do not overload the drum. Do not use fabric softener, soak or treat with chlorine.
After washing, gently reshape the garment while still damp and preferably dry it flat. Do not hang heavy, dripping-wet garments on a hanger, as they may stretch out of shape. Do not tumble dry.
