G-LOFT Expedition Sleeping Bag for Extreme Winter Conditions
This model is the Carinthia G 490x in size L (230 x 93 x 55 cm) with right-hand zipper. The sleeping bag is also available in additional sizes and with different zipper configurations. An overview of all available variants can be found below.
Expedition Sleeping Bag for Extreme Cold
The G 490x with 490 g/m² G-LOFT insulation, a comfort temperature of -21.4 °C, a weight of 2,650 g, and a compressed pack size of 28 x 34 cm is the CARINTHIA G-LOFT expedition sleeping bag with the highest thermal performance. The sleeping bag demonstrates its outstanding insulation performance particularly during demanding mountain tours, expeditions, and extended stays in winter environments.
Thanks to its robust outer construction, the G 490x is also suitable for overnight stays in snow caves and for use in environments where equipment is continuously exposed to cold, snow, and moisture.
G-LOFT Insulation for Reliable Thermal Performance
For insulation, Carinthia uses the proven G-LOFT insulation made from 100% polyester. The synthetic fill combines high thermal performance with excellent moisture resistance and retains its insulating properties even under demanding weather conditions.
With an insulation weight of 490 g/m², the G 490x was specifically developed for operations in extreme cold. The high-performance insulation supports efficient heat retention and ensures a high level of sleeping comfort even at very low temperatures.
Robust Polyamide Construction
The outer material is made from 100% polyamide and has been designed for use in demanding environments. The durable outer shell protects the insulation from external influences and contributes to the long service life of the sleeping bag.
The inner material is also manufactured from 100% polyamide. This material combination provides a robust overall construction suitable for expeditions and winter outdoor operations.
Thoughtful Construction for Maximum Thermal Efficiency
The 3-layer construction supports an even distribution of insulation and reduces heat loss within the sleeping bag. This design is complemented by the integrated Thermoflect system, which further enhances heat retention.
An insulated thermal collar, the zipper heat strip, and the zipper cover flap help minimize the ingress of cold air and efficiently retain body heat.
Functional Features for Field Use
The G490x features a two-way zipper with anti-snag tape and an anatomically shaped foot section. The differential cut improves insulation performance, while the coupling capability provides additional flexibility during use.
Pre-configured loops allow the use of compatible inner sleeping bags such as the Grizzly and Polycotton Liner. A compression sack and a separate storage bag are also included.

Care Instructions for G-LOFT Sleeping Bags
G-LOFT sleeping bags are machine washable (gentle cycle, max. 30°C) and suitable for tumble drying at low temperature. Before washing, close all fasteners, loosen drawcords and turn the sleeping bag inside out. A washing machine with a minimum capacity of 7 kg is required. The gentlest cleaning method remains hand washing in warm water using detergent for synthetic fibers. After washing, rinse several times to remove any detergent residues.
Spin at a maximum of 500 rpm, then air dry – avoid direct sunlight. Machine drying is possible at very low heat on the most gentle setting. Shake the sleeping bag occasionally during drying; for heavy sleeping bags over 2 kg, the use of an industrial dryer is recommended.
Proper Storage for G-LOFT Sleeping Bags
G-LOFT sleeping bags should always be stored uncompressed in order to maintain the insulation performance of the filling. Ideally, store the sleeping bag hanging, laid out flat or with zippers open in a large mesh bag in a dry, well-ventilated area. The insulation requires sufficient space to expand and recover. The compression sack should only be used for transport – do not roll the sleeping bag, but instead stuff it loosely into the sack from the foot end with the zipper open, as repeated rolling stresses the filling in the same areas and may damage the construction.
