The specially selected material and innovative construction combine light weight with high durability, making the SOF 3 ideal for demanding tours where every gram counts. Another benefit is the compatibility with other SOF sleeping bags, allowing flexible adaptation to winter conditions.
Adaptable Sleep System
The Special Operation Forces sleeping bags are designed to provide maximum flexibility and versatility. The products in this series feature a modular concept, allowing adaptation to nearly all climatic conditions. Each sleeping bag comes with four color-coded patches for easy identification, making packing simpler. With all three SOF sleeping bags in your arsenal, you are well-equipped for all seasons—from hot summer nights to frosty winter adventures. The Carinthia SOF 3 alone offers a comfort temperature of -2°C and remains reliably warm around freezing point, with a comfort limit of -8°C for extra margin during cold nights. Combined with the lightweight SOF 1, it reaches a comfort limit of -15°C, and with the mid-weight SOF 2, it can go as low as -20°C. All three sleeping bags together provide a comfort limit of -24°C, handling even extreme sub-zero conditions. Additionally, elastic loops inside allow for the use of Carinthia liners, making the sleep system even more versatile.
Advanced G-LOFT Insulation
Carinthia's G-LOFT fiber is one of the leading developments in synthetic insulation and is globally recognized for its efficiency. It combines the thermal properties of premium down with the durability of synthetic fibers, making it robust and easy to care for. Thanks to a special memory effect, the hollow bi-component fibers always return to their original shape after frequent compression. This structure creates effective air pockets that ensure even heat distribution, even in damp conditions. G-LOFT is lightweight, breathable, and highly compressible. The Carinthia SOF 3 features a three-layer construction, providing total insulation of 275 g/m², offering optimal cold protection.
Practical Product Features
The sleeping bag is equipped with a durable profile zipper located on the right side, with an alternative SOF 3 M Left version available for left-side opening. Large pull tabs make it easy to open and close, even with gloves or cold hands. An additional slider at the bottom allows for ventilation or can be used as a leg opening. The zipper is covered by a flap that runs up to the hood area and closes with hook and loop to prevent accidental opening. Behind the zipper is an insulated flap that minimizes heat loss. Stiffening stitching along the opening prevents the fabric from snagging in the zipper. The hood has an adjustable drawcord and an insulated collar that blocks cold air and keeps the warm air inside. Inside, there is an internal pocket to keep essential items such as headlamps or electronic devices warm and easily accessible.
Durable Polyamide Fabric
For use in harsh conditions, Carinthia chose a special polyamide fabric that offers an optimal combination of weight and durability. The smooth surface and high abrasion resistance make the sleeping bag resistant to dirt and branches, while increased breathability ensures that moisture can escape efficiently. Additionally, the fabric has a durable water-repellent coating for extra protection from external elements.
Functional Design for Maximum Comfort
The differential cut prevents compression of the filling, as the inner lining is narrower than the outer layers. This ensures that the insulation remains effective even with bent body parts like elbows or knees. The trapezoidal foot section offers extra space and freedom of movement for the feet, significantly enhancing sleep comfort.
Thermoflect: Efficient Heat Reflection
The interior of the sleeping bag is enhanced by an additional layer of ultra-light, breathable fabric that reflects body heat. This Thermoflect layer improves thermal performance without noticeably increasing the overall volume of the sleeping bag.
Compact Storage Solution
To take up as little space as possible in your gear, the sleeping bag comes with a compression sack that reduces its volume to a minimum. After use, the sleeping bag should be air-dried and stored uncompressed in the included mesh bag to maintain its thermal performance. The two loops at the foot end are perfect for hanging the bag. Both the compression sack and mesh storage bag are equipped with color-coded patches for easy identification—or you can use the loop areas for personal labeling.

Care instructions for G-LOFT sleeping bags
G-LOFT sleeping bags are machine washable (delicate cycle, max. 30°C) and suitable for tumble drying on low heat. Before washing, close all zippers, open the drawstrings, and turn the sleeping bag inside out. A washing machine with at least 7kg capacity is required. The gentlest cleaning method is handwashing in warm water with synthetic fiber detergent. After washing, rinse several times to remove detergent residues. Spin at a maximum of 500 rpm, then air dry – avoid direct sunlight. Machine drying is possible on very low heat in the gentlest program. Shake the bag during drying; for heavy sleeping bags over 2kg, an industrial dryer is recommended.
Proper storage
G-LOFT sleeping bags should always be stored uncompressed to maintain the insulation performance of the filling. The ideal storage method is hanging, open, or with unzipped closures in a large mesh bag such as the Carinthia Storage Bag Net in a dry, well-ventilated area. The filling needs enough space to expand and recover. The stuff sack should only be used for transport, never roll the sleeping bag but rather stuff it from the foot end with the zipper open.
