Carinthia HIG 5.0 Trousers – Cold Protection for Variable Operational Profiles
The Carinthia HIG 5.0 Trousers complement the HIG 5.0 Jacket to create a coordinated insulation system for professional operations in cold regions. Designed for temperatures down to -20°C, they reliably retain heat during stationary phases without unnecessarily restricting freedom of movement during patrols, marches and tactical changes of position.
For the fifth generation, the construction has been specifically adapted to rapid transitions between movement and stationary phases. Fully separable side zippers, revised suspenders, a raised rear waistband and additional reinforcements allow flexible integration into existing clothing and equipment systems.Coordinated Insulation and Material Construction
The G-LOFT insulation with 125 g/m² creates a reliable thermal barrier for low temperatures. It retains the body heat generated during active movement and limits heat loss when activity levels decrease or extended periods in a fixed position become necessary.
The synthetic insulation material is made from 100% polyester and retains its thermal performance even in damp conditions. This ensures that the trousers remain reliably functional in snow, light moisture, under changing levels of physical exertion and during extended operational periods outdoors.
The windproof and highly water-repellent Carinthia SOF 2L outer fabric made from 100% polyamide protects the insulation against cold airflow and weather conditions. It shields the internal construction against snow and light moisture and supports the long-term retention of the thermal barrier.
Particularly in strong winds, the perceived temperature can be significantly lower than the measured ambient temperature. The windproof outer construction reduces this cooling effect, thereby improving thermal performance during exposed operational phases.
The lining is also made from 100% polyamide. Its smooth surface makes it easier to put the trousers on and remove them over functional underwear, a uniform or additional clothing layers and completes the durable material construction.
Fully Separable Construction
The full-length side zippers extending along the entire length of the legs allow the trousers to be opened completely. This enables the HIG 5.0 to be put on or removed quickly without having to take off tactical or winter boots first.
Equipment already being worn does not need to be removed completely for the clothing change either. The insulated trousers can therefore be added at short notice as soon as falling temperatures or extended stationary phases require additional cold protection.
Two-Way System with Integrated Wind Protection
The lateral closures are designed as two-way zippers and can be opened from different directions depending on the situation and equipment. This facilitates donning and removal while also providing targeted access to clothing or equipment worn underneath.
Wind protection along the zippers limits the ingress of cold air through the lateral openings. When the trousers are closed, their thermal protection therefore remains as consistent as possible, even in windy conditions.
Durable Reinforcements for Dynamic Operations
Hard-wearing reinforcements at the knees and seat protect heavily exposed contact zones during repeated movements. They increase resistance when kneeling, sitting and working close to the ground, as well as during contact with vehicle components, equipment and rough terrain.
Additional reinforcements at the leg openings and around the ankles account for the mechanical stress caused by terrain, footwear and friction between the trouser legs. This keeps the construction durable even during extended marches and frequent changes of position.
New Suspender Construction
The revised suspenders stabilize the trousers during active movement and ensure a secure fit. They reduce slipping during marches, while kneeling and when transitioning between standing, seated and crouched positions.
The even support maintains comfort during extended operational periods and under changing levels of physical exertion. At the same time, it facilitates combination with functional underwear, additional winter clothing and tactical equipment.
Enhanced Protection for the Kidneys and Lower Back
The raised rear waistband reliably covers the sensitive kidney and lower back area. It maintains the overlap between the trousers and outer garments during movement and while kneeling or crouching.
This prevents an unprotected gap from forming between the clothing layers during tactical changes of position. Combined with the HIG 5.0 Jacket, the raised waistband creates the most enclosed possible insulation zone around the core of the body.
Seat Pocket with Protected Zipper
A rear pocket with a concealed zipper provides secure storage for flat, important items or objects that must not be lost. The closed zipper reliably keeps the contents in place during movement-intensive operational phases.
The additional zipper garage accommodates the slider when closed. It reduces the risk of accidental opening and protects the closure against snow, dirt and mechanical stress.
With a weight of approximately 710 g in size M, the HIG 5.0 combines high thermal performance with an overall weight tailored to active operational profiles. Compressed to a packed size of approximately 18 × 31 cm, it can be transported compactly in an operational backpack, winter luggage or a vehicle.
