Carinthia HIG 5.0 Trousers – Tactical Cold Protection Down to -20°C
The Carinthia HIG 5.0 Trousers systematically extend the High Insulation concept of the HIG 5.0 Jacket to the lower body. Developed for changing activity phases at temperatures down to -20°C, they combine reliable heat retention in stationary positions with the mobility required for patrols, marches and security duties.
At the heart of the fifth generation is a fully separable split-trouser design that allows the trousers to be put on and removed quickly over footwear and equipment already being worn. A new suspender construction, the raised rear waistband and strategically reinforced high-wear zones adapt the trousers to professional operational procedures alternating between active movement and extended stationary periods.Insulation and Material Construction for Cold Operational Conditions
The G-LOFT insulation with 125 g/m² is made from 100% polyester and creates a durable thermal barrier for operations in low temperatures. During active phases, it retains the body heat generated within the clothing system and protects against heat loss as soon as movement decreases or extended stationary operational phases begin.
The synthetic insulation material is resistant to moisture and retains its thermal performance even under adverse conditions. This ensures that the HIG 5.0 Trousers remain reliably functional during changing levels of exertion, contact with snow, light moisture and extended periods outdoors.
The windproof and highly water-repellent Carinthia SOF 2L outer fabric made from 100% polyamide serves as the outer protective layer. It protects the highly insulating internal construction against cold airflow, snow and light moisture, thereby supporting the trousers’ thermal performance under changing winter conditions.
In strong winds, the perceived temperature can be considerably lower than the measured ambient temperature. The windproof construction reduces this additional cooling effect and supports the G-LOFT insulation in retaining the thermal barrier created inside for as long as possible.
The lining made from 100% polyamide completes the durable material construction and makes it easier to put the trousers on and remove them over a uniform, functional underwear or additional clothing layers. The HIG 5.0 therefore combines moisture-resistant polyester insulation with hard-wearing outer and inner materials for professional operational conditions.
Fully Separable Split-Trouser Design
The split-trouser design with full-length side zippers is one of the key functional innovations of the fifth generation. Both trouser legs can be fully opened and separated along their entire length, allowing the cold-weather trousers to be put on quickly over tactical or winter boots.
Equipment already being worn does not need to be removed completely before putting on or taking off the trousers. This allows the HIG 5.0 Trousers to be adapted immediately to changing temperatures, activity levels and new tactical requirements.
Two-Way Zippers with Wind Protection
The lateral closures are designed as two-way zippers and can be opened from different positions as required. In addition to allowing the trousers to be put on and removed quickly, they provide targeted access to clothing or equipment worn underneath.
An integrated wind-protection construction limits the ingress of cold air along the lateral closures. When the zippers are fully closed, the insulating performance of the trousers therefore remains as consistent as possible even in windy conditions.
Reinforcements in High-Wear Areas
Durable reinforcements at the knees and seat increase resistance during frequent changes of position and activities performed while sitting, kneeling or close to the ground. They protect the outer material against premature wear caused by rough ground, vehicle surfaces and personal operational equipment.
The leg openings and ankle areas are also additionally reinforced. During marches and movement through terrain, these zones are exposed to high levels of mechanical stress caused by footwear, contact with the ground and friction between the trouser legs.
Revised Suspenders for a Secure Fit
The new suspender construction ensures a secure fit during active operational phases. It stabilizes the insulated trousers during marches, while kneeling and when transitioning between standing, seated and crouched positions.
Even support reduces slipping during extended wear and frequently changing movement intensity. At the same time, the construction supports comfort when combined with functional underwear, additional winter clothing and tactical equipment.
Raised Waistband for the Kidney Area
The raised rear waistband protects the sensitive kidney and lower back area against the cold. Its extended construction maintains the overlap between the trousers and outer garments during movement and while kneeling or crouching.
This prevents an unprotected gap from forming between the individual clothing layers during changes of position. Combined with the HIG 5.0 Jacket, the raised rear section creates the most continuous possible insulation zone around the core of the body while simultaneously limiting the ingress of cold air.
Secure Storage at the Rear
A seat pocket with a concealed zipper accommodates flat, important items or pieces of equipment that must not be lost. The closed zipper keeps the contents securely inside the pocket during active movement and frequent changes of position.
The integrated zipper garage covers the slider when closed. It reduces the risk of accidental opening and provides additional protection for the closure against snow, dirt and mechanical contact.
With a weight of approximately 710 g in size M, the HIG 5.0 Trousers combine high insulation performance with an overall weight tailored to movement-oriented operational profiles. The packed size of approximately 18 × 31 cm enables compact transport in an operational backpack, winter luggage or a vehicle.
