High-Performance Winter Sleeping Bag for Extreme Conditions
The Defence 6 185 high-performance winter sleeping bag is the culmination of superior material technology and meticulous construction, designed to provide unparalleled thermal insulation in extreme Arctic conditions.
Material System
A three-layer sandwich construction forms the core of this sleeping bag.
Shellproof Outer Material
The outer layer is made of high-quality Shellproof material, ensuring optimal heat retention. Shellproof is composed of 100% polyamide with a polyurethane coating, responsible for the fabric's robust and durable structure. This material combination ensures waterproofness (up to a water pressure of 1000 mm) while maintaining breathability, crucial for preventing moisture accumulation inside the sleeping bag and maintaining a comfortable microclimate.
G-LOFT Plus Filling
Made from high-quality bi-component polymers, the G-Loft fiber features a micrometer-wide air duct and a hollow fiber structure, ensuring optimal thermal insulation. It consists of two different raw materials, resulting in a spiral crimping in its molecular structure. This leads to a "memory effect," where the fiber consistently returns to its original, warm, and fluffy form.
The combination of microfibers and low-melt fibers allows for a smooth structure and compact packing size. The low-melt fibers are responsible for the low weight and flexibility of the G-Loft insulation. Through thermobonding, the fibers fuse together, ensuring a permanently fluffy loft.
As the G-Loft fibers form clusters within the insulation layer, they ensure optimal and permanent insulation in all directions, creating similar heat storage properties as natural down. Unlike down, however, G-Loft synthetic fibers do not absorb moisture, ensuring high thermal efficiency even in wet conditions.
The Defence 6 sleeping bag's three G-LOFT Plus insulation layers feature offset quilting. The shell is not quilted with the filling but is applied later. This creates an air cushion between the insulation and the shell, making the shell even more water and airtight without stitch perforations.
Thermoflect
The Thermoflect technology inside increases the sleeping bag's heat retention by approximately 11% and is Carinthia's solution to heat loss due to body radiation. Thermoflect is an ultra-light, ultra-soft, breathable fleece with the unique ability to reflect body heat. The cotton fabric layer that reflects body heat consists of clear polyethylene film, which, in short, encases vaporized aluminum, creating a barrier against wind and fluids.
Zipper
A key function in the performance of the mummy sleeping bag is the innovative thermal strip on the inside of the zipper, which efficiently prevents heat loss. An additional protective flap on the outside provides effective protection against wind and moisture, ensuring a warm and dry sleeping environment even in the harshest weather conditions.

Even when the sleeper moves, compressing the inner insulation layer, the sleeping bag's heat performance is maintained thanks to its innovative construction. The differentially designed insulation layers are designed to provide maximum loft even at pressure points caused by movements in the sleeping bag. This is achieved through the more generous dimensioning of the successive layers, creating additional air cushions between them. In the differential cut, only the innermost layer is compressed, while the outer layers maintain their loft and thus their insulating properties.
Mummy Sleeping Bag with Trapezoidal Foot Section
The thermal efficiency of the material is also implemented in the mummy shape of this winter sleeping bag. The design-optimized, tapered foot section not only reduces weight and packing size but also ensures more efficient thermal insulation. The trapezoidal foot section is specifically designed to match the natural proportions of the human body. This prevents the feet from pushing the insulation layers outward, thus avoiding cold bridges. Additionally, the trapezoidal cut provides enough space for additional clothing or a shoe sack, without compromising the insulation effect.

Care instructions for G-LOFT sleeping bags
G-LOFT sleeping bags are machine washable (delicate cycle, max. 30°C) and suitable for tumble drying on low heat. Before washing, close all zippers, open the drawstrings, and turn the sleeping bag inside out. A washing machine with at least 7kg capacity is required. The gentlest cleaning method is handwashing in warm water with synthetic fiber detergent. After washing, rinse several times to remove detergent residues. Spin at a maximum of 500 rpm, then air dry – avoid direct sunlight. Machine drying is possible on very low heat in the gentlest program. Shake the bag during drying; for heavy sleeping bags over 2kg, an industrial dryer is recommended.
Proper storage
G-LOFT sleeping bags should always be stored uncompressed to maintain the insulation performance of the filling. The ideal storage method is hanging, open, or with unzipped closures in a large mesh bag such as the Carinthia Storage Bag Net in a dry, well-ventilated area. The filling needs enough space to expand and recover. The stuff sack should only be used for transport, never roll the sleeping bag but rather stuff it from the foot end with the zipper open.
