The Petzl ARIA 2 RGB Camo is a compact and rugged headlamp designed for tactical applications where reliable illumination is just as important as discreet use.
Construction
Housing
The Petzl ARIA 2 RGB is designed for situations where equipment has to withstand more than ordinary everyday use. Its compact housing is impact resistant to IK07 and withstands drops from heights of up to two metres in accordance with ANSI/PLATO FL 1. In addition, the headlamp meets the IP67 protection rating and is therefore dustproof and waterproof. Weighing 106 grams, the ARIA 2 RGB remains pleasantly compact despite its rugged construction. The lamp sits close to the head and adds very little extra weight.
Design
The removable and washable headband features symmetrical adjustment and can be easily adapted to the individual head size. After intensive use, the headband can be removed and cleaned. The mounting plate allows the tilt angle to be adjusted so that the beam can be directed forward or into the immediate working area, depending on the task. Adjustment is made directly on the lamp, allowing quick adaptation when the situation changes. The mounting plate is also compatible with various Petzl mounting solutions. This means that the ARIA 2 RGB can not only be worn as a conventional headlamp, but can also be attached to different helmets with suitable accessories.
Power Supply
The ARIA 2 RGB comes with three AAA/LR03 batteries and is therefore ready for immediate use. Thanks to the PETZL HYBRID CONCEPT, however, the power supply is not limited to standard batteries. Alternatively, the separately available CORE rechargeable battery can be used. The headlamp is also compatible with alkaline and lithium batteries as well as Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. This allows the power supply to be adapted to existing equipment and the intended application.
The lamp detects the power source in use and adjusts its lighting performance accordingly. With the included AAA/LR03 batteries, the ARIA 2 RGB delivers 450 lumens in Max Power mode and a maximum beam distance of 100 metres. With the optional CORE rechargeable battery, output increases to up to 625 lumens when switched on in Max Power mode. At the same time, the maximum beam distance increases to 115 metres.
Lighting Technology
The Petzl ARIA 2 RGB offers three brightness levels for white light: Max Burn Time, Standard and Max Power. Max Burn Time focuses on achieving the longest possible burn time. Standard mode offers a balanced combination of light output and runtime. When maximum brightness is required, Max Power provides the highest available light output. Unlike a pure close-range lamp, the ARIA 2 RGB features two beam patterns designed for different situations. A wide and uniform beam provides even illumination in the immediate surroundings. This is particularly useful for close-range tasks where a larger area rather than a single point needs to be clearly illuminated. The mixed beam extends visibility into the distance and supports orientation while moving.
In addition to its main white light, the Petzl ARIA 2 RGB Camo features red, green and blue light. All three colours can be used either as continuous light or in flashing mode. The subdued coloured light helps preserve the eye’s dark adaptation and provides significantly more discreet illumination than bright white light. The appropriate colour can be selected depending on the situation.
Operation
The ARIA 2 RGB is operated using a single switch. This allows the different brightness levels to be selected without additional controls. The operating concept is deliberately straightforward and enables quick switching between the available functions. When switching the lamp on or off, an LED indicator shows the remaining energy level. This makes it possible to check the current power status before the lamp is used again. For transport and storage, the Petzl ARIA 2 RGB also features a LOCK function. It prevents accidental activation, for example when the headlamp is carried in a bag or together with other equipment.
