Description
MIG 5.0 Jacket – Consistently Designed for Tactical Operations
With the Carinthia MIG 5.0 Jacket, the proven MIG series reaches its fifth stage of development. With its reduced IR signature, ISO Mapping Technology and enhanced weather protection, the MIG 4.0 had already established a new direction within the Carinthia Military Line. In the new generation, Carinthia now places an even stronger focus on the functional integration of reliable thermal performance and personal operational equipment.
The resulting insulated jacket was developed for highly dynamic operations in which changing phases of movement and exertion follow one another in rapid succession. Its construction combines cold protection with a high degree of freedom of movement, rapid access to equipment and the operational capability required in tactical scenarios.Further Developed for Modern Equipment Concepts
At the heart of the MIG 5.0 is the new Side Access System. Two fully opening side zippers extend from the lower hem to beneath the armpits and provide direct access to holsters, magazines, tools and other belt-mounted equipment.
There is no need to pull up the jacket or open the central front zipper to access the equipment. This keeps the center of the body closed and protected from the cold while mission-critical items remain immediately accessible. The Side Access System therefore significantly improves compatibility with duty belts, battle belts and holster systems.
Graduated G-LOFT Insulation Down to -15 °C
The MIG 5.0 is designed for highly active operations at external temperatures down to -15 °C. Its moisture-resistant G-LOFT insulation has a weight of 125 g/m² on the body and 80 g/m² on the sleeves.
The higher insulation weight around the torso ensures concentrated thermal performance at the particularly cold-sensitive center of the body. At the same time, the lighter insulation in the sleeves supports mobility during weapon handling, tactical position changes and work in or around vehicles. As the synthetic insulation material retains its thermal performance even when damp, reliable cold protection remains available under changing operational conditions.
Body-Mapped Cold Protection with ISO Mapping
The ISO Mapping Technology familiar from the previous generation remains an essential component of the insulation concept. It takes into account that individual body regions lose different amounts of heat and positions the insulation and functional materials according to these thermal requirements.
This body-mapped construction precisely balances thermal performance, breathability and freedom of movement. It supports climate regulation particularly when intensive activity, reduced movement and prolonged stationary phases alternate during an operation.
Greater Freedom of Movement Through New Zipper Solutions
Another element of the update is the new YKK two-way front zipper. It can be opened from both the top and the bottom, thereby reducing material bunching when sitting, driving or kneeling.
The opening, which can be adjusted from the bottom, increases the range of movement in vehicles while simultaneously facilitating access to equipment worn beneath the jacket. A wind flap behind the front zipper reduces the ingress of cold air. An integrated chin guard prevents direct contact between the skin and the zipper when the collar is fully closed.
Optimized Storage for Gloves and Operational Equipment
Inside the MIG 5.0, two large mesh pockets provide storage for gloves, a beanie and additional operational equipment. Their position close to the body makes it possible to warm damp gloves and assist with drying while the jacket is being worn.
An internal Napoleon pocket with a zipper on the left-hand side provides additional protected storage. It is suitable for important items or objects that must not be lost and keeps them securely accessible without interfering with the operation of equipment positioned externally or on the belt.
Adjustable Cuffs and Hem for Changing Configurations
Carinthia has also modified the sleeve cuffs for the fifth generation. They ensure a controlled fit around the wrist and support the functional combination of the jacket with tactical gloves.
The hem width can be adjusted to different clothing layers and equipment configurations. The internal drawcord used for this purpose can be operated securely from inside the side pockets, ensuring that no external adjustment elements interfere with access or movement.
Wind and Moisture Protection for Changeable Conditions
The Carinthia SOF 2L outer fabric is made from 100% polyamide and is windproof and highly water-repellent. It protects against cold wind, light moisture and short-term changes in the weather that can frequently occur during military and tactical operations.
Combined with the moisture-resistant G-LOFT insulation, it provides durable weather protection that maintains reliable thermal performance even under adverse conditions. The lining made from 100% polyamide allows the jacket to slide on and off easily over a uniform or additional insulating clothing layers.
For Dynamic Operations and Changing Operational Phases
The Carinthia MIG 5.0 Jacket is tailored to military special forces, tactical users in overt and covert operations, vehicle crews and dynamic sport shooters. Its advantages become particularly apparent in scenarios where high levels of activity, stationary phases and direct access to personal equipment are closely interconnected.
Weighing approximately 1,150 g in size M, the jacket combines high-performance cold protection with a construction consistently geared towards tactical requirements. For transportation and storage, it can be compressed to a packed size of approximately 15 × 28 cm and stored compactly in a tactical backpack or vehicle.

LIG, MIG or HIG – Which Jacket Suits the Operational Profile?
The LIG 5.0 is a minimalist jacket, ideal as a midlayer or for mild, dry winter days down to approx. -5 °C. It provides basic weather protection and good mobility, but only light insulation and no reduced infrared signature. The MIG 5.0 , by contrast, is a well-balanced all-rounder with an insulated hood, a practical pocket configuration and reliable insulation down to -15 °C. It is suitable for demanding outdoor activities in cold conditions and robust enough for tactical operations. The HIG 5.0 is the warmest of the three jackets, with an extended cut and enhanced cold protection down to -20 °C. It is particularly suitable for prolonged periods in extreme cold, such as during static operations or expeditions. -
