  Carinthia HIG 5.0 Jacket – Heat Retention and Ventilation During Operations
  

  Intensive movement, prolonged observation phases and renewed activity place different demands on military cold-weather clothing. The Carinthia HIG 5.0 Jacket was developed for these transitions: It provides high insulation during rest phases and allows excess heat to be released in a controlled manner as exertion increases.
  
  As the warmest level within the classic LIG, MIG and HIG system, the fifth-generation High Insulation Garment combines movement-oriented insulated clothing with reliable protection against extreme cold. With a temperature range down to -20°C, the jacket is suitable for demanding winter operations in which consistent heat retention is just as important as controllable ventilation.

  G-LOFT Insulation for Reliable Heat Retention

  The G-LOFT insulation has a weight of 145 g/m² on the body and 110 g/m² on the sleeves. The heavier insulation around the torso protects the center of the body, which is particularly important for heat retention, while the balanced fill weight in the sleeves maintains sufficient freedom of movement for tactical procedures and working with equipment.

  The synthetic insulation material is made from 100% polyester and is largely unaffected by moisture. It therefore retains its thermal performance even in damp conditions. During prolonged stationary periods and rest phases, the insulation provides consistent cold protection without restricting the jacket exclusively to stationary applications.

  Pit Zips for Changing Phases of Exertion

  Side pit zips in the underarm area allow active regulation of the climate inside the jacket. During intensive movement, the ventilation openings can be opened to allow excess heat and accumulated moisture to escape directly from inside the jacket.

  When physical exertion decreases again, the pit zips can be completely closed to restore the jacket’s high insulation performance. This allows the HIG 5.0 to respond flexibly to changing activity levels without having to be removed or opened extensively using the central front closure.

  Flexible Two-Way Front Closure

  The new concealed two-way front zipper can be operated from both ends. Opening it from the bottom reduces disruptive material bunching when sitting, kneeling and driving while simultaneously facilitating access to equipment worn beneath the jacket.

  The wind flap running behind the front zipper reduces the ingress of cold air. The integrated chin guard also protects the skin against direct contact with the zipper and increases comfort when the front is fully closed.

  New Quilting Design on the Inside

  The interior of the HIG 5.0 features a revised quilting design. The new construction keeps the insulation material evenly in position and reduces potential cold zones that could be caused by seams or an irregular distribution of the filling.

  This distributes heat retention as evenly as possible across the upper body. The construction supports consistent insulation performance, particularly during prolonged stationary operational phases, rest periods or multi-day stays in cold regions.

  Internal Storage with an Additional Warming Function

  The optimized internal mesh pockets provide sufficient space for gloves, a beanie and other temperature-sensitive equipment. As they are positioned close to the body, damp gloves can be warmed inside them and dried with the assistance of the available body heat.

  Additional revised internal pockets expand the storage space for personal equipment. A separate internal Napoleon pocket with a zipper provides secure storage for important items or objects that must not be lost and keeps them reliably accessible even when the jacket is closed.

  Revised Cuffs for Glove Systems

  The sleeve cuffs have been modified for the fifth generation and provide a controlled fit around the wrists. This reduces the ingress of cold air while allowing the sleeves to be combined with tactical gloves and more heavily insulated winter gloves.

  The adapted construction reduces disruptive material at the transition between the jacket and gloves. This keeps the hands mobile and allows the individual components to be combined into the most enclosed possible cold-protection system.

  Carinthia SOF 2L Against Wind and Light Moisture

  The Carinthia SOF 2L outer fabric made from 100% polyamide is windproof and highly water-repellent. It protects the insulating layers against cold airflow, light moisture and rapid changes in the weather, thereby contributing to reliable thermal performance in winter conditions.

  Combined with the moisture-resistant G-LOFT insulation, it creates a durable construction for prolonged periods outdoors. The lining is also made from 100% polyamide and makes it easier to put on and remove the jacket over functional underwear, a uniform or additional clothing layers.

  For Operations, Expeditions and Winter Tours

  The Carinthia HIG 5.0 Jacket is designed for infantry, military special forces and other professional users whose operational profiles involve varying levels of physical intensity. It provides protection during prolonged stationary activities while its ventilation options allow it to be adapted to movement-intensive phases.

  The HIG 5.0 is also suitable for expedition participants on multi-day tours and for demanding bushcraft and survival activities in cold regions. It weighs approximately 1,200 g in size M. With a packed size of approximately 17 × 33 cm, the jacket can be transported in a tactical backpack, expedition luggage or vehicle and is available in sizes S to XXL.

  LIG, MIG or HIG – Which Jacket Suits the Operational Profile?
  

  The LIG 5.0 is a minimalist jacket, ideal as a midlayer or for mild, dry winter days down to approx. -5 °C. It provides basic weather protection and good mobility, but only light insulation and no reduced infrared signature. The MIG 5.0 , by contrast, is a well-balanced all-rounder with an insulated hood, a practical pocket configuration and reliable insulation down to -15 °C. It is suitable for demanding outdoor activities in cold conditions and robust enough for tactical operations. The HIG 5.0 is the warmest of the three jackets, with an extended cut and enhanced cold protection down to -20 °C. It is particularly suitable for prolonged periods in extreme cold, such as during static operations or expeditions.
