Thyrm developed a special variant of the original DarkVault with the DarkVault 2.0, optimized for smartphone use in demanding environments. While the original DarkVault serves as a universal gear case for sensitive equipment, the DarkVault 2.0 allows for easy smartphone attachment to plate carriers and chest rigs. This ensures that the smartphone can be quickly and seamlessly used for tactical purposes such as navigation, ballistic information, or ad-hoc mesh communication. The concept behind Thyrm's DarkVault Blocking models is to significantly hinder access to and tracking of your phone without having to completely store it in a Faraday pouch or power it off. Thyrm’s specially developed polymer reduces signal transmission by up to 110dB.
It is still possible for a phone to connect to networks while inside the DarkVault, particularly when in close proximity to strong Wi-Fi routers or 5G/cellular antennas. However, when the phone is inside the Thyrm DarkVault, this signal transmission is drastically reduced, especially with enough distance from these powerful sources. Bluetooth devices can still communicate through the DarkVault, as Bluetooth operates at a higher frequency (with limited range). This allows the use of mesh antenna systems like goTenna Pro and Otto Lynq Pro, as well as most headphones.
While the operational security is significantly enhanced by using the DarkVault, all of these features should be considered depending on the specific application of the DarkVault!Smartphone compatibility
Thyrm designed the phone holder and viewing window of the DarkVault 2.0 to be compatible with most smartphones available on the market, including those from Samsung, Apple, and Google.
