Highly advanced plate carrier with structural support
The proven Crye Precision Cage Plate Carrier, or CPC, together with the matching plate bags, forms a solid carrying platform for ballistic inserts and tactical equipment. The innovative separation of the load-bearing system and plate bags creates a unique carrying experience for extensive setups, ranging from the classic infantry role to highly specialised breaching operators. The system is also compatible with the Crye StKSS, which provides a load-transferring connection from the plate carrier to compatible belts.
The core component: CPC harness system
The foundation of this successful design is a sophisticated system of individually positionable padding elements, integrated reinforcements, and functional loops. The padded shoulder straps are connected to the front section via hook and loop connectors and are length-adjusted via a durable metal buckle on the rear panel. To make the vest easier to put on and remove, side-release buckles can be threaded in on both the left and right front sides. The rear section contains the integrated quick-release system, which separates the back panel into two parts so that the entire plate carrier can be released forward. This ensures even unexpected swims can be handled safely. At the rear, there is also a fine adjustment using thick elastic cord, allowing the vest width to be adjusted easily while the elastic stretch dynamically adapts to the body. The cummerbund consists of two parts: a rigid inner component that provides the plate carrier with structural stability and a partially flexible outer cummerbund that serves as the closing side section. On the inside is a pocket suitable for radios or a magazine, and behind it is the interface for the load-bearing StKSS system. The cummerbund also includes space for side ballistic inserts: for size SM from 15.2 × 15.2 cm up to 15.2 × 26.6 cm, and for the other sizes from 15.2 × 15.2 cm up to 15.2 × 29.2 cm.
Plate bags with performance-focused details
The vest design incorporates many years of feedback from end users, resulting in a solid baseline configuration for the plate compartments designed for stand-alone ballistic plates. At the front, across the full width at the top, there is a flat admin pouch closed with hook-and-loop and equipped inside with several elastic loops for securing small items. This allows essential writing tools, chewing gum, or reference cards to be stored within easy reach. On the chest, standard smartphone or admin pouches can also be mounted via PALS webbing, while the large loop surface enables the attachment of large flag patches. Two vertical loops securely hold PTT units and increase compatibility with interchangeable placards and chest rigs from various manufacturers. Below this are three AR magazine pouches integrated into the hook-and-loop flap, which remain secure even during dynamic operations thanks to the included retention loops. When not in use, the magazine pouches can be closed flat using hook-and-loop – almost as if they were not there. On the rear, the CPC features full-surface PALS webbing along with a large loop panel for patches. On the sides are robust profile zippers that significantly expand the carrier’s modularity. Crye offers a variety of interchangeable back panels for breachers, medics, and other specialised roles, allowing a quick, secure, and close-fitting integration with the armour. The rescue handle at the top is secured with hook-and-loop but is immediately accessible when required. Both plate compartments are closed at the bottom with hook-and-loop and can be opened quickly using a webbing pull tab to remove the plate.
Load transfer to the hips
The carrier is designed so that the side sections can be upgraded with the Structural Kinetic Support System (StKSS). This creates a load-bearing connection to compatible belts such as the Crye Airlite SLC Belt or the Crye AVS Low Profile Belt, significantly reducing strain on the shoulders and back.
