MIG 5.0 - 5th Generation Tactical Insulation
The Carinthia MIG 5.0 Jacket takes the proven cold protection of the Carinthia MIG series into a new tactical generation. While the MIG 4.0 established a new benchmark within the Carinthia Military Line with its reduced IR signature, ISO Mapping Technology and optimized weather protection, the fifth generation focuses on the direct integration of personal operational equipment.
The result is a high-performance insulated jacket for highly dynamic operations where thermal performance alone is not enough: freedom of movement, rapid access and unrestricted operational capability are crucial.Technical Innovations and Design Updates at a Glance
With the MIG 5.0, Carinthia has aligned its proven cold-weather jacket even more consistently with the use of tactical equipment.
The centerpiece of the update is the new Side Access System: Two full-length side zippers extend from the hem to beneath the armpits and provide direct access to holsters, magazines, tools and other belt-mounted equipment. The jacket does not need to be lifted or opened using the front zipper: the center of the body remains protected, while mission-critical equipment stays immediately accessible.A new YKK two-way front zipper also improves freedom of movement when sitting, driving and working while wearing equipment. Optimized internal mesh pockets, an additional internal Napoleon pocket, modified sleeve cuffs and a hem adjustment operated from inside the side pockets further enhance the fifth-generation upgrade.
Body-Mapped Insulation Down to -15°C
The MIG 5.0 is designed for highly active operations at temperatures down to -15 °C. Its moisture-resistant G-LOFT insulation has a weight of 125 g/m² on the body and 80 g/m² on the sleeves. This concentrates the thermal performance around the particularly cold-sensitive torso, while the reduced insulation volume in the arms supports mobility during tactical movements.
Carinthia uses the same ISO Mapping Technology already featured in the previous generation. It accounts for the different heat-loss characteristics of individual body regions and specifically coordinates insulation, freedom of movement and breathability. This keeps the body climate as balanced as possible, even during changing levels of activity.
Weather Protection for Demanding Operational Conditions
The windproof and highly water-repellent Carinthia SOF 2L outer fabric made from 100% polyamide protects against wind, light moisture and rapid changes in the weather. As the synthetic G-LOFT insulation retains its thermal performance even when damp, the jacket remains reliably operational under adverse conditions.
A wind flap behind the front zipper reduces the ingress of cold air, while the integrated chin guard prevents direct contact with the zipper. The lining made from 100% polyamide also makes it easier to put on and remove the jacket over a uniform or additional clothing layers.
Functional Details for Movement and Equipment
The front zipper, which can be operated from both ends, can be opened from the bottom and prevents excessive material bunching when seated. This facilitates use in vehicles, improves mobility in kneeling positions and keeps equipment worn underneath accessible.
Two large internal mesh pockets provide space for gloves, a beanie or additional operational equipment. Their position close to the body can be used to warm damp gloves and assist with drying. An additional internal Napoleon pocket with a zipper on the left-hand side provides secure storage for important items or objects that must not be lost.
The modified sleeve cuffs ensure a controlled fit and make the jacket easier to combine with tactical gloves. The hem width can also be adjusted to the respective clothing and equipment configuration: The internal drawcord is protected and operated from inside the side pockets.

It demonstrates its strengths wherever movement, stationary phases and rapid access to personal equipment alternate in quick succession.
Weighing approximately 1,150 g in size M, the jacket combines robust cold protection with high tactical functionality. Compressed to a packed size of approximately 15 × 28 cm, it can be carried compactly in a tactical backpack or vehicle.

LIG, MIG or HIG – Which Jacket Suits the Operational Profile?
The LIG 5.0 is a minimalist jacket, ideal as a midlayer or for mild, dry winter days down to approx. -5 °C. It provides basic weather protection and good mobility, but only light insulation and no reduced infrared signature. The MIG 5.0 , by contrast, is a well-balanced all-rounder with an insulated hood, a practical pocket configuration and reliable insulation down to -15 °C. It is suitable for demanding outdoor activities in cold conditions and robust enough for tactical operations. The HIG 5.0 is the warmest of the three jackets, with an extended cut and enhanced cold protection down to -20 °C. It is particularly suitable for prolonged periods in extreme cold, such as during static operations or expeditions. -
