MIG 5.0 – Cold Protection for Modern Operational Systems
The Carinthia MIG 5.0 Jacket consistently takes the proven concept of the MIG series into the next generation. After the MIG 4.0 redefined the direction of the Carinthia Military Line with its reduced IR signature, ISO Mapping Technology and improved weather protection, the fifth generation places the functional interaction between cold protection and personal operational equipment at the forefront.
The MIG 5.0 is therefore a high-performance insulated jacket for highly dynamic tactical operations in which reliable thermal performance must be combined with unrestricted mobility. Rapid access to equipment and the continuous maintenance of operational capability consequently define the entire construction of the new generation.Innovations at a Glance
The key innovation of the MIG 5.0 is the Side Access System. Two full-length side zippers extend from the hem to beneath the armpits and provide direct access to holsters, magazines, tools and other items of equipment attached to the belt.
To access personal operational equipment, the jacket needs neither to be lifted nor opened using the front zipper. This keeps the center of the body protected from cold and weather while ensuring that the required equipment remains quickly available without unnecessary movements. Carinthia has thus specifically adapted the proven MIG construction to modern belt and holster systems.
Insulation for Highly Active Operations Down to -15 °C
The MIG 5.0 is designed for movement-intensive operational profiles at temperatures down to -15 °C. Its moisture-resistant G-LOFT insulation has a weight of 125 g/m² on the body, while 80 g/m² is used in the sleeves.
The heavier insulation around the torso concentrates thermal performance on the particularly cold-sensitive center of the body. At the same time, the reduced insulation volume in the arms maintains the mobility required for weapon handling, vehicle operation and tactical movements. The synthetic insulation retains its thermal performance even when damp, thereby supporting reliable operational capability under adverse conditions.
ISO Mapping for a Balanced Body Climate
To regulate thermal performance, Carinthia continues to rely on the ISO Mapping Technology already used in the previous generation. It is based on the different heat-loss characteristics of individual body regions, which are taken into account when distributing insulation and functional materials.
In this way, heat retention, breathability and freedom of movement are specifically balanced with one another. The body-mapped construction supports the most balanced body climate possible when intensive periods of movement and stationary activities alternate during an operation.
Revised Functionality for Maximum Freedom of Movement
In addition to the Side Access System, the MIG 5.0 features a new YKK two-way front zipper. It can also be opened from the bottom, thereby reducing disruptive material bunching when sitting, driving or working while wearing equipment.
The construction improves freedom of movement and comfort, particularly in operational vehicles or kneeling positions. At the same time, equipment worn beneath the jacket or close to the body remains more accessible. A wind flap positioned behind the front zipper reduces the ingress of cold air, while an integrated chin guard prevents direct contact with the zipper.
Well-Designed Interior Features for Operational Equipment
Two optimized internal mesh pockets provide generous storage space for gloves, a beanie or additional operational equipment. Their position close to the body also allows them to be used to warm damp gloves and support the drying process while the jacket is being worn.
An internal Napoleon pocket with a zipper on the left-hand side complements the storage concept. It provides protected storage for important items or objects that must not be lost without restricting access to equipment worn externally or on the belt.
The cuffs have also been functionally adapted for the fifth generation. Modified sleeve cuffs ensure a controlled fit around the wrist and facilitate use with tactical gloves. The hem width is adjusted using an internal drawcord, which can be operated from inside the side pockets and allows the jacket to be adapted to different clothing and equipment configurations.
Windproof and Highly Water-Repellent Weather Protection
The Carinthia SOF 2L outer fabric made from 100% polyamide has windproof and highly water-repellent properties. It protects against wind, light moisture and short-term changes in the weather, thereby supporting operational capability in changing external conditions.
Combined with the moisture-resistant G-LOFT insulation, it provides durable cold protection that maintains its functionality even in adverse weather conditions. The lining is also made from 100% polyamide and makes it easier to put on and remove the jacket over a uniform or additional clothing layers.
Designed for Dynamic Operational Requirements
The Carinthia MIG 5.0 Jacket is intended for military special forces, tactical users in overt and covert operational scenarios, vehicle crews and dynamic sport shooters. Its constructional advantages become particularly apparent wherever high levels of physical activity, stationary operational phases and rapid access to personal equipment alternate in quick succession.
Weighing approximately 1,150 g in size M, the jacket combines durable cold protection with features that are consistently geared towards tactical use. For transport, it can be compressed to a packed size of approximately 15 × 28 cm and stored compactly in a tactical backpack or as part of a vehicle equipment setup.

LIG, MIG or HIG – Which Jacket Suits the Operational Profile?
The LIG 5.0 is a minimalist jacket, ideal as a midlayer or for mild, dry winter days down to approx. -5 °C. It provides basic weather protection and good mobility, but only light insulation and no reduced infrared signature. The MIG 5.0 , by contrast, is a well-balanced all-rounder with an insulated hood, a practical pocket configuration and reliable insulation down to -15 °C. It is suitable for demanding outdoor activities in cold conditions and robust enough for tactical operations. The HIG 5.0 is the warmest of the three jackets, with an extended cut and enhanced cold protection down to -20 °C. It is particularly suitable for prolonged periods in extreme cold, such as during static operations or expeditions. -
