A course full of possibilities
The six-day course gives you the perfect opportunity to fully realize your creative ideas. With plenty of time, you can create complex and demanding designs to produce a sword that is not only functional but also carries your personal signature.Bringing out the best together
The goal is to achieve the maximum for you within these six days. With your active participation and Blade Create’s expert guidance, every effort is made to turn your ideas and visions into reality.Course schedule (6 days)
The course begins at 09:00 at Blade Create’s headquarters (Backgasse 1, 34628 Willingshausen, district of Wasenberg). First, you will receive a detailed safety briefing and a theoretical introduction to “Damascus steel.” Afterwards, the design of your individual, functional sword will be developed. Then, the Damascus steel billets are combined according to your requirements (for example, with a higher proportion of spring steel for reenactment-ready blades). Next, you begin forging your blade blank, which will take up most of the day. In the evening, the blades are normalized and annealed overnight.
On the second day, again starting at 09:00, everything revolves around grinding and shaping the blade into its final form. These tasks are carried out partly by machine and partly by hand. The third day also starts at 09:00. Here, you complete any remaining work on the blade’s shape and geometry before polishing it by hand.
On day four, starting at 09:00, you focus on crafting the guard and pommel (hilt components). This includes some forging work, making a chisel for the blade root, and shaping the steel. In the evening, the blade is prepared for the hardening process and coated with heat-protection lacquer.
On the fifth day, you harden your sword blade under guidance according to your individual requirements. During the tempering phase, you can carry out additional fine adjustments or corrections to the handle components. Afterwards, the blade receives its final polish and is then etched to reveal the Damascus pattern.
The final day again begins at 09:00. Now, all components - guard, pommel, and grip - are assembled, and you customize the sword with handle wraps made of leather, wire, or both. Finally, the sword is sharpened.
Disclaimer: At the moment, Blade Create is not able to offer traditional Japanese-style katana handle construction. Swords with katana-style blade shapes are possible. The production of sabers or rapier baskets is not technically feasible within this timeframe.Lunch included
