The Light My Fire Swedish FireSteel BIO Army 2in1 is a set designed for ambitious adventurers who frequently venture into nature. With up to 12,000 ignitions, this fire starter lasts a long time. Originally developed for the military, the Swedish FireSteel impresses with a metal alloy that is both hard and easy to use. With the Army model, you carry a significant load of sparks of hope that will help in tricky situations.
Handle with Integrated Whistle
Holding the fire steel means you also have a 120dB emergency whistle at your fingertips as an acoustic signaling device. Integrated into the ergonomic handle of the striker, it makes optimal use of space in your cooking or bushcraft kit. The sharp-edged stainless steel allows for striking large sparks. The core of the ignition aid is a rod made from a pyrophoric metal mixture with iron, magnesium, lanthanum, and cerium, which is user-friendly and durable. In terms of sustainability, Light My Fire impresses with the new BIO models by choosing Terralene plastic, which is made from renewable resources and is fully recyclable. To keep the set together, the spark steel and scraper are connected by a cord.
The Epitome of Reliability
Unlike lighters, the FireSteel has no gas tank and no sensitive parts, making it the first choice for any region and weather. The fire starter is resistant to moisture, cold, altitude, and wind. With a spark temperature of nearly 3,000°C and up to 12,000 ignitions, it withstands long tours under the most demanding conditions, creating a solid foundation for a reliable fire kit. It also ignites gas, petrol, and alcohol stoves for outdoor use, in campers, or cabins.
Making Fire with the FireSteel
As usual, for a successful campfire, sufficient fuel of varying thicknesses needs to be collected first. The special requirement is that the tinder needs to be as fine and dry as possible to efficiently catch the sparks. The hot metal shavings self-ignite in the air and kindle tinder like birch bark, cotton, dry grass, or wood shavings. This first flame is carefully placed into fine twigs and then slowly built up until the fire reaches the desired size.
