LIG 5.0 Jacket – Lightweight Cold Protection for Maximum Mobility
The Carinthia LIG 5.0 Jacket consistently develops the proven Light Insulation Garment for modern tactical and movement-intensive applications. In the fifth generation, particularly low weight, a compact packed size and targeted thermal performance are combined with new functional details and a revised, mission-oriented construction.
Weighing just 540 g in size M, the LIG 5.0 is designed as an ultralight insulation solution for changing weather conditions and levels of exertion. It can be worn as a standalone jacket in cool temperatures, while in more demanding conditions it functions as a warming midlayer beneath a hardshell. The G-LOFT insulation has a weight of 80 g/m² on the body and 60 g/m² on the sleeves. This graduated distribution provides greater protection for the particularly thermally critical torso , while the reduced insulation volume in the arm area maintains the freedom of movement required for dynamic operational profiles.
The synthetic insulation material is resistant to moisture and retains its thermal performance even in wet conditions. At the same time, it dries quickly, thereby allowing reliable use in changeable weather without the weight and volume of a more heavily insulated cold-weather jacket.
Body-Mapped Heat Through ISO Mapping
Carinthia ISO Mapping Technology adapts insulation performance to the different thermal requirements of individual body regions. Heat retention and material distribution are specifically tailored to the body’s thermal requirements, while movement-intensive areas remain lighter and more flexible.
A newly developed quilting design reduces the formation of cold spots and supports the most even insulation possible. In this way, thermal performance, breathability and mobility are functionally combined – particularly in operational scenarios involving frequently changing levels of physical exertion.
Low-Noise Outer Fabric for Tactical Applications
For the LIG 5.0, Carinthia uses a new, lightweight low-noise outer fabric made from 100% polyamide. The material reduces disruptive noise during movement, thereby supporting use during approaches, observation and other tactical activities in which acoustic discretion is relevant.
The outer fabric combines a low overall weight with the durability required for military and demanding outdoor applications. The lining is also made from 100% polyamide and makes it easier to put on and remove the jacket over functional underwear, a uniform or additional clothing layers.
Integrated Storage in the Back
For compact transportation, the jacket features an integrated storage pocket in the back. The LIG 5.0 can be packed completely into this internal pocket, eliminating the need for a separate stuff sack.
When packed, the jacket has a packed size of just 15 × 28 cm. This allows it to be stored compactly in a tactical backpack, daypack or vehicle and deployed quickly as an additional insulating layer when temperatures drop.
Adjustable Collar with Stowable Hood
The newly constructed collar can be adapted to different weather and operational conditions. An integrated hood can be deployed quickly when required and then stowed completely inside the collar, ensuring that it does not restrict visibility or mobility around the neck when not in use.
The inside of the collar is lined with soft thermal fleece. The material improves heat retention around the neck and increases comfort when the front zipper is fully closed.
New Front Zipper and Integrated Wrist Warmers
A new one-piece front zipper complements the weight-optimized construction of the fifth generation. It allows rapid operation and supports the regulation of the body climate when activity levels or external conditions change.
Internal wrist warmers close the transition between the sleeves and hands and reduce the ingress of cold air. They improve heat retention around the exposed wrists while also being designed for use with tactical or functional outdoor gloves.
Generous, Weather-Protected Storage
Two large external pockets provide space for gloves, a beanie and frequently required equipment. Cover flaps protect the pocket zippers from moisture and dirt and support their reliable function under changing operational conditions.
The external pockets are lined with thermal fleece and can therefore also be used to warm the hands. An additional internal Napoleon pocket provides protected storage close to the body for important items or objects that must not be lost.
Flexible Insulating Layer for Professional Applications
The Carinthia LIG 5.0 Jacket is designed for military special forces, infantry and law-enforcement personnel who require a lightweight and rapidly deployable insulating layer. The jacket also demonstrates its advantages during bushcraft, survival and trekking activities where low weight, a compact packed size and reliable heat retention are the priorities.
As a standalone outer layer, the LIG 5.0 is suitable for highly active applications at temperatures down to -5°C. In more demanding weather conditions, it can be combined with a hardshell as an insulating midlayer.

LIG, MIG or HIG – Which Jacket Suits the Operational Profile?
The LIG 5.0 is a minimalist jacket, ideal as a midlayer or for mild, dry winter days down to approx. -5°C. It provides basic weather protection and good mobility, but only light insulation and no reduced infrared signature. The MIG 5.0 , by contrast, is a well-balanced all-rounder with an insulated hood, a practical pocket configuration and reliable insulation down to -15°C. It is suitable for demanding outdoor activities in cold conditions and robust enough for tactical operations. The HIG 5.0 is the warmest of the three jackets, with an extended cut and enhanced cold protection down to -20° C. It is particularly suitable for prolonged periods in extreme cold, such as during static operations or expeditions. -
