Compact fire steel for outdoor use and survival
The Mil-Tec Fire Steel Small is a straightforward fire-starting aid for camping, bushcraft and emergency kits. Measuring just 8 cm in total length and weighing 28 g, this compact fire starter fits easily into even small pockets, cook sets or EDC pouches. This means you always have a reliable way to start a fire whilst out and about, without the need for gas, batteries or delicate mechanisms.
Spark generator with scraper and cord
The 5 cm long spark generator rod has a diameter of 6 mm and is fitted with a handy, olive-coloured handle. Vigorously scraping the metal scraper across the rod creates a shower of sparks, which can be used to ignite suitable tinder. The fire steel and scraper are connected by a black cord. This keeps both parts together and allows them to be quickly removed from your kit.
For best results, the tinder should be as fine, dry and sheltered from the wind as possible. The scraper is then drawn firmly across the fire steel just above the tinder. Once the tinder is smouldering or burning, the flame can be gradually built up using thin twigs and other fuel.
