Lightweight outdoor backpack from Tatonka's bushcraft line

This year, Tatonka is captivating enthusiasts with a new product line aimed specifically at bushcrafters. This expansion complements the previously vibrant assortment designed for outdoor and mountain sports with new backpacks and bags in stone grey olive. The Tatonka Pyrox 45+10 BC Bushcraft backpack is crafted from lightweight 500D Cordura, robust YKK zippers, and high-quality plastic parts from Woojin, making it an optimal companion for demanding adventures in nature without being too heavy. With a capacity of up to 55 liters, there is ample space for overnighters, cabin trips, climbing excursions, and adventures where fishing gear, packrafts, insulation clothing, or other additional items are essential.

Efficient carrying system with focus on comfort

This medium-sized hiking backpack features the lightweight and comfortable Frame Comfort Light carrying system. Its core component is a continuous frame made of spring steel, which efficiently transfers loads around 15 kg to the hip belt, while the ventilated back area ensures great comfort on sweaty days. The generously padded shoulder straps are lined inside with spacer fabric to further support moisture management. A height-adjustable chest strap with an elastic section ensures a secure fit in any situation, above, a loop on each side can be used for guiding a drinking tube. Load control straps allow for optimal positioning of the fully packed backpack on the back. The shoulder straps are attached to a wide plate with hook and loop closure, which can be adjusted for back lengths of approximately 45 to 58 cm, a range previously reserved primarily for larger trekking backpacks. A flat compartment between the pack sack and the back can accommodate a sitting mat, wind protection, hobo stove, Sam Splint, or other flat items. The permanently sewn hip belt with reinforcement and padding also features a redirected pull, making it easier to tighten. Additionally, it has MOLLE loops on the right hip fin for additional bags and a zippered pocket made of elastic material on the left, where a monocular, beanie, or snacks can be carried within easy reach. Above the padding at the bottom, Cordura ensures that less dirt is collected. Two large carrying handles with partial mesh fabric help to comfortably lift and load the backpack into the shelter.

Spacious main compartment with optimal access

Usable as both a classic top loader and a front loader, this backpack leaves no desires unfulfilled, allowing for individual loading while always providing the best access to contents. The top access is secured by a snow guard made of continuously durable Cordura, which can be closed with a drawstring. A red pull aid on the cord stopper and a red indicator webbing facilitate use in limited visibility. The front access is provided by a strong YKK U-shaped zipper on the front, in whose lid a flat zippered pocket is integrated, perfect for maps, gloves, or other flat items that should be easily accessible from the outside. At the lower edge are the two buckles of the bottom pack straps, which support the zipper and can be used as limiters for the opening. The interior of the primary compartment features a hydration bladder compartment, complemented by a central bladder suspension and a passage for the drinking tube. Below, a zippered divider separates the main compartment from the sleeping bag compartment, allowing the volume to be used as either a large compartment or two separate compartments. For optimal handling, the resulting bottom compartment is accessible through its own solid YKK zipper, through which it can be loaded separately.

    Easily accessible lid pocket

Designed to accommodate different load heights, the lid compartment is adjustable on both sides for optimal fit and can further compress the main compartment from the top with its four straps. The voluminous top compartment features a zipper that runs so far that the lid does not fully open, ensuring the accessibility of loose items without them falling out. An internal key hook secures particularly important small items against loss. For organization within the lid compartment, the TT Mesh Pocket Set is a great addition. On the outside of the lid, four loops can be supplemented with separately available shock cord to carry a rain jacket or tarp quickly accessible on the backpack. On the underside of the lid, there is a classic first aid pouch with a zipper, clearly marked with a cross and lettering. Here, an extensive first aid kit and survival kit can be stored without directly affecting the storage volume of the primary lid pocket.

    Modular expandability with additional pouches

To organize essential gear for bushcrafting and keep it quickly accessible, modular pouches are indispensable. And that is precisely why Tatonka has extensively incorporated attachment options on this backpack: conventional MOLLE bands on the sides and a laser-cut attachment system with an iconic triangle design on the front. Both ensure full compatibility with standard MOLLE pouches, allowing the backpack to be properly equipped for every venture.

Additional features for a successful tour

To be prepared for heavy rain, an olive green rain cover is included, which can be secured in the lid compartment. Bulky sleeping mats can be accommodated outside the backpack thanks to the long bottom pack straps. A narrow separator-loop on the front allows for targeted attachment of material on the bottom or front side, while a back-to-back strip neatly stores excess length. On each side, two additional compression straps with buckles help keeping the weight close to the body and secure heavy side pouches, poles, or a camera tripod. Adjustable material loops facilitate the secure attachment of trekking poles or ice axes. On the left side, an elastic water bottle pocket allows a Nalgene or canteen to be carried within easy reach. A 10 x 5 cm loop area allows for the attachment of fluorescent patches for night marches or the morale patch of choice.
